Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technicians

Rads Engineering and General Supply Company is seeking two Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technicians for a short-term engagement based in Lumwana, North-Western Province, Zambia. The successful candidates will install, service, maintain and repair air conditioning systems to ensure efficient, reliable and safe operation.

Job Purpose

To install, inspect, service, maintain and repair air conditioning systems, diagnose technical faults, and ensure that all equipment operates efficiently and in line with applicable safety standards.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Install, service and repair air conditioning units, including split, window and other applicable systems.
• Conduct routine preventive maintenance and cleaning of air conditioning equipment.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical and refrigeration-related faults.
• Inspect compressors, condensers, evaporators, fans, filters, thermostats and other system components.
• Check refrigerant levels, detect leaks, and carry out refrigerant recovery, evacuation, charging and recharging where required.
• Test systems after installation or repair to confirm proper functionality and energy efficiency.
• Identify defective components and recommend appropriate repairs or replacements.
• Respond to service requests and complete assigned maintenance and repair work within agreed timelines.
• Maintain accurate records of work completed, faults identified, materials used and services provided.
• Ensure proper use, storage and maintenance of tools, equipment and materials.
• Comply with occupational health and safety requirements and maintain a clean and organised work area.
• Provide professional customer service and technical advice to clients.

Qualifications and Experience

• A certificate, craft certificate or other recognised technical qualification in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, HVAC, or a related field.
• Practical experience installing, servicing and repairing air conditioning systems.
• Knowledge of refrigeration principles, electrical controls and air conditioning system components.
• Ability to diagnose faults and carry out repairs independently or as part of a team.
• Familiarity with relevant safety procedures and proper handling of refrigerants.
• Good problem-solving, communication and time-management skills.
• A valid driver's licence would be an added advantage.

Duty Station and Working Arrangements

The successful candidates will be based in Lumwana, North-Western Province, Zambia, and may be required to travel to client premises and other work sites within the province.
