Engineer – Project Implementation

Job Purpose

Effectively supervise, coordinate and manage the implementation of water supply and sanitation infrastructure projects, both in-house and contractor-executed, ensuring compliance with technical specifications, contractual obligations (including FIDIC conditions or equivalent), environmental and social safeguards, and quality standards.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Project Supervision and Implementation: Supervise construction works and ensure compliance with approved designs, specifications, quality and timelines.
• Contract Administration: Administer contracts, payments, variations, claims and extensions of time (EOTs) according to contractual conditions.
• Planning, Monitoring and Reporting: Prepare work plans, monitor progress and produce periodic project reports.
• Design and Technical Support: Prepare and review designs, drawings, specifications, bills of quantities (BOQs) and cost estimates.
• Environmental and Social Safeguards: Ensure compliance with environmental, social, health and safety requirements.
• Stakeholder Coordination: Coordinate contractors, consultants, internal departments, regulators and other stakeholders.
• Quality and Risk Management: Ensure QA/QC compliance and identify and mitigate project risks.
• Documentation and Record Keeping: Maintain accurate project, contractual and site records.
• Technical Support and Mentorship: Provide technical support, mentor junior staff and undertake other assigned duties.

Qualifications and Experience

• School Certificate with credit or above in Mathematics and English.
• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Water Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
• At least two (2) years of relevant post-qualification experience in construction supervision, water supply or sanitation projects.
• Membership of the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ).
• Registered or eligible for registration with the Engineering Registration Board (ERB) of Zambia.

Skills

• Good organisation and planning skills.
• Working knowledge of water distribution and transmission networks installation.
• Strong knowledge of engineering design and construction principles.
• Understanding of FIDIC or equivalent contract conditions and project management practices.
• Proficiency in engineering software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, WaterGEMS, SewerGEMS, ArcGIS, Microsoft Project or equivalent.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Excellent report writing and communication skills.
• Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple tasks and work with stakeholders.
• Valid manual driver's licence and at least two years' driving experience.
