We are seeking a skilled grader operator to handle precision earthmoving and surface-finishing work on construction and road projects. The successful candidate will operate grading equipment safely and accurately while coordinating closely with ground crews and other machine operators.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate the grader's adjustable moldboard to level, smooth and shape earth, stone, gravel or asphalt surfaces to exact specifications
- Adjust the blade angle to cut side slopes, banks and ditches along roadsides to ensure proper drainage
- Lay down and flatten sub-grade layers of earth before paving roads, runways or building foundations
- Manage multiple control levers or joysticks to adjust blade height, tilt, angle and side-shift while the machine is moving
- Operate rear-mounted rippers or scarifiers to break up hard, compacted ground, asphalt or ice before grading
- Use GPS/laser-based 3D grade control systems to achieve precise finish elevations
- Carry out pre-shift inspections, checking fluid levels, tyre pressure and the machine for structural cracks or hydraulic leaks
- Check, flip or replace cutting edges (bolt-on blades) when worn
- Communicate clearly with grade checkers, spotters and other equipment operators to avoid utility lines, stakes and ground crew
- Read and interpret construction stakes, grade markers and blueprints to determine cut and fill requirements
